SYNTH NIGHT is a semi-regular performance series produced by Gift Tapes of Seattle, WA that focuses on contemporary experimental synthesizer-based music.

SYNTH NIGHT 3
August 13th, 8 PM sharp
PULSE EMITTER, STELLA HAZE & SPARE DEATH ICON
Chapel Performance Space - 4649 Sunnyside Ave N. (50th & Sunnyside, Wallingford)
Gift Tapes presents an evening of meditative music with three NW synth artists: modular synth builder/composer Pulse Emitter (Daryl Groetsh), a debut performance from Stella Haze (Cristin Miller of Emma Zunz), & a new work from Spare Death Icon (Gift Tapes' Jason E Anderson, member of Brother Raven). This third edition of Gift Tapes' SYNTH NIGHT series will showcase three distinct minimalist synth works in the beautiful confines of the Chapel Performance Space.
Pulse Emitter is the synthesizer music of Portland's Daryl Groetsch. Inspired by the cosmos and nature, Pulse Emitter is dedicated to science fantasy escapism. Drifting analog pads and patterns, often in unsynchronized layers, align as planets in a solar system. Long form journeys wander from noise to new age, lingering in the weird world that exists in between. Information on releases and performance history is at synthnoise.com

Seattle-based Cristin Miller debuts her first performance under the Stella Haze moniker, a departure from her former work with avant folk-rock duo Emma Zunz. Stella Haze uses vocals as a central element in her sound, weaving thick fields of synthesizer and effects to create dreamy, minimalist soundworlds. In early 2009, she released her first cassette on Gift Tapes entitled Thaw.

Spare Death Icon is one of several solo projects by Seattle's Jason E. Anderson, best known as head of the Gift Tapes label and as half of synth duo Brother Raven. Spare Death Icon recalls the atmospheric zones of early new age pioneers and early 80's underground tape music. Primarily a studio-based project for recording solo work, Spare Death Icon gives rare live performances that tend to focus on debuting a new work. For this performance, SDI will perform a piece of music for relaxation (for future release as a split w/ Charlatan on Stunned Records).
